Character Concept Picker – Creating Literary and Video-Game Characters

April 25, 2022

From Narrative Nods to Word Journey, I’ve made a lot of programs that one way or another revolve around words, writing, and fictional worlds. Character Concept Picker is such an app. It’s open-source, free for all, and it can help you come up with ideas for building characters for your next novel or video game.

It all started when, browsing LinkedIn, I discovered an Excel table with some character traits and other characteristics, meant as a guide for creating characters. It was the work of Jacob Conner Harris, a narrative designer.

I messaged him and asked whether he’d be interested in teaming up and creating a little app using the data he’d come up with. He said yes, and Character Concept Picker is the result.

Word Journey – Gaming Meets Infinite Narratives

June 14, 2021

If you enjoy word games, you’re going to like this. If you enjoy word games and you’re fascinated by the idea of a semi-randomly generated narrative that continues “forever”, you’re going to love this! Word Journey is my latest game – and program; and literary effort – that bridges these two aspects together.

The game goal of Word Journey is very simple: You are given the definition of a random word, and you must guess what the word is, gathering points and racing against the clock. But that’s not all! Every time you correctly guess the word, a sentence relevant to the word is added to the stack, generating a theoretically infinite semi-random narrative! When you run out of time (there is also a “Zen Mode”, without time constraints) you can export the text to a file.

Sounds great? I think so too 😉

A Modern Text Adventure Game: Mansion Escape v2, in Your Browser!

February 8, 2021

Yes, I’ve got some really important news! As a name, Mansion Escape might be familiar to you, if you’ve played its first iteration on Android. But I decided to take this to a whole new level. Mansion Escape is dead, long live Mansion Escape! A modern text adventure game, in the style of the early computer-game era, but updated for modern audiences, with attractive visuals, immersing sounds, and enhanced playability.

More importantly, this is no longer just an Android app. This is a game you can play in any modern browser, be it on mobile, desktop, PC, Mac, or Linux. You can save on your mobile and continue from your PC. Is that cool or what?

But what does a modern text adventure videogame include? What is it about? And where can you try it?

Read on to find out!

What should a modern text adventure look like? Well, like Mansion Escape of course!
